Design Perspective: Building a Children's Book World with Paper-Based Art

This project breaks away from the traditional single-style display of book exhibitions, transforming children’s book content into spatial scenes. The exhibition hall uses white and blue as the brand’s foundational colors, complemented by wood-toned paper-based materials, green natural elements, and high-saturation painted graphics, creating a fresh, bright, and welcoming atmosphere for children’s reading. The design focus was to make “books” not just items on shelves, but an enterable, perceptible, and interactive story world. Large illustrated backdrops, paper-based forest installations, three-dimensional display walls, picture book-themed posters, and children’s book displays together create an immersive exhibition experience, allowing visitors to naturally enter the imaginative world the brand has created as they browse the books.

Playful Scenes: Bringing Picture Book Stories into the Exhibition Hall

Inspired by the visual language of children's picture books, the project transforms two-dimensional illustrations into three-dimensional spaces, enhancing the hall's appeal and the time visitors spend there.

Large Interactive Picture Book Backdrop Wall: The hall features a large, colorful painted story backdrop with dreamy imagery including swirling starry skies, paper airplanes, the moon, castles, characters, and animals. By combining three-dimensional paper art components with two-dimensional illustrations, the installation creates a spatial effect similar to an “open picture book,” turning the booth into a highly photogenic children’s reading scene.

Paper-Based Forest and Tree Installations: Large paper-based tree structures, along with natural elements like grass and animals, extend the reading space into a forest exploration scene. The trees are formed through paperboard interlocking and layering, presenting playful, organically growing shapes while also demonstrating the shaping capability of paper-based materials in unconventional installations.

Display System: Functional Integration of Reading, Presentation, and Negotiation

While enhancing the playful children's experience, the hall also fully meets the practical needs of brand promotion, book sales, client reception, and product display.

Modular Book Display Walls: Multiple sets of white bookshelves and three-dimensional display walls are set up in the core area of the hall for categorizing and displaying picture books, imported children’s books, popular science reads, and cultural and creative products. The display system is simple and clear, highlighting book cover visuals while facilitating quick browsing, selection, and inquiries by visitors.

Brand Reception and Themed Display Area: The blue-and-white reception desk reinforces the Gaishi Children’s Books brand identity. Peripheral vertical themed display panels are presented with rounded-corner paper-based structures, complemented by posters of key book series like “Secrets of Nature” and “Spot Books,” forming a complete visitor flow from brand introduction and content presentation to business communication. The overall hall design is suitable for parent-child visits while also meeting the professional negotiation needs of attendees at the ICIF.
